Make a CEO swim the Atlantic

CEO of Opera Software, Jon S. von Tetzchner will “swim the Atlantic”: if Opera reaches one million downloads in four days.
bq. An overly excited Jon S. von Tetzchner, CEO, Opera Software, today proclaimed at an internal company meeting that if the download numbers of the new Opera 8 Web browser reach 1 million within the first four days of the launch, he will swim from Norway to the USA with only one stop-over for a cup of hot chocolate at his mother’s house in his home country, Iceland. Opera’s communications department could obviously not resist to make such a bold and inarguably over-confident statement public.
So what are you waiting for? You can help a CEO get in better (or worse) shape, “download Opera now”: By my calculations, you have until Saturday morning.

  1. Have already got my registered copy.
Now all I’m wondering about is: when are they going to get that thing out of beta?

  2. Georg: Delete or change the entry in opera6.ini named “Title=”

  3. Oh, I have no earlier beta to worry about, so that isn’t a problem.
Just think Opera8 was released a bit too soon, with too many rendering-bugs in it. I’ll regard this “final release” as a beta, and hope the next one will be a real “final”. Looking forward to it.

  4. The downloads surpassed 1 million and now he’s on his way. Haha! 🙂

Follow the link at number 4. (above), and check out the bottom-right picture. Look how relaxed the guy in the boat looks. hahahahaha!
Kinda defines the attitude of the company.
    Gotta love them!

  6. This is a good PR-stunt for sure. The PR-guy has my respect. But the follow ups, especially the one today is a bit over the top – without spelling it out – might confuse some less than sharp souls in the country he was supposed to reach 😉
