Conspiracy theorists, unite

… or not.

First, read Asa’s, titled 100 million downloads? — then read Daniel Goldman’s post on the same subject. You can round this off by reading Rijk’s entry on the same subject. Then read this:

  1. No matter what you may, or may not think about Asa, Firefox, or either of the Mozilla organization/corporation: Accusing Asa of click fraud is not amusing. It’s not right, and you should not do it.
  2. No matter what you may, or may not think about Asa, Firefox, or either of the Mozilla organization/corporation: Accusing Asa, or anyone he knows of violating NDA’s is not amusing, it’s not right, and you should not do it.
  3. Accusing Rijk of posting anything to the Opera forums, when Olli says he’s the poster of anything is not amusing, it’s not right, and you should not do it.
  4. Before making any sort of speculation as to why the given graphic was on the site is futile. Read what Eskil wrote; Some people were playing around with ideas and that page was never meant to be made available online

And to fanboys on either “side” (I know you read this): Please, instead of wasting all that time on endless flamewars against the “other browser”, spend your time evangelizing the product you actually use! Or do you want to be a zealot? Remember, we are all trying to escape the browser monoculture

(And to anyone this is not already obvious to, these words are my own.)

Never meant to be public? Then why was there an entire Google adwords campaign, running live, and linking to that page. That page was most certainly expected to be available online or all of the Google adwords would have 404’d.

Given that the page was absolutely supposed to be live and to be seen by people hunting Google for the keyword Firefox, It’s hard for me not to assume they’re simply lying.

Asa:

The 100 million downloads number is true, as mentioned in a Business 2.0 article last year.

So basically, you are grasping for straws again.

And before anyone else continues down this line: This weblog is not an arena for flamewars

o_O ever heard of dummy texts or puns ?

Stop the paranoia guys. And try to keep in mind that we share the same goals.

The page was (and was supposed to be) public, and the number was correct. However, the number was added as part of someone playing around with design ideas, and probably wasn’t supposed to be on the actual page. Not that it’s a big deal anyway.

Is there a problem here, Asa?
