Quotations: Typographical conventions around the world

When reading Roger Johanssons Quotations and citations: quoting text it served as a reminder that the typographical conventions for quoting varies around the world.

I was going to write a lengthy piece on quotation marks in different languages, but thankfully, I chose to check out the Wikipedia entry on Quotation marks. So should you: This document seems fairly complete.

This is why it would be really great if more browers (well, IE basically) would get around to supporting the <q> tag. In the meantime, I just style it as italic in IE.

[Incidentally, the site seems to have trouble rendering in Firefox - the right-hand menu appears over the comment textarea, and there’s a lot of flickering when moving the mouse over menu links when the Google ad box is displayed]
