Morons in refererspace

I just checked my referer logs, and there is a reason I keep them private. Spam. Today’s idiot loser company spammed my referer log to sell me antispam tools. Yes, that’s right antispam tools.

They hit my logs 100 times in 7 minutes. So, “Moronic Company”, you’re not getting free publicity from me. Instead, I’m blocking you from accessing anything here. In case you’d like to block them as well, you can block IP 207.44.226.11.

Morons, fucking morons.

I’ve been getting more and more of that. There’s some obscenely named sites that must have a scheduled visit to my site frequently; they became top referrer for the month in June, and that’s obnoxious! If you block them, does it keep them from hitting your stats when they try to visit again? Hmmmm, maybe I’ll have to try that! Thanks!

I use .htaccess to block these morons, and I block them both by IP and Referer:

SetEnvIfNoCase Referer "^http://moronicspammers.example.com" IllegalUA
SetEnvIf Remote_Addr 207.44.226.11 IllegalUA
Deny from env=IllegalUA

My Apache installation keeps errors and accesses in separate files. Not every Apache installation does this, and in that case, if you run a script displaying referers on your site, you might want to modify it to have a blacklist.
