Aggregators and automatic updates

Just a quick question, mostly because I haven't made up my mind yet:

News aggregators like Feedreader, and probably others will contact the newsfeeds a user subscribes to at certain intervals.

I've noticed that for my own blogs people fetch my RSS feeds at anything from 10-minute intervals to once a day. At what point do auto-updating become impolite? At 5 minute intervals? Is every 15 minutes too often? Every half hour?

I think hourly is the generally accepted norm for max frequency for RSS fetches… (correct me if I’m wrong here, anyone?)

That’s what I thought as well. Feedreader does however set a default of 15 minutes, so I was wondering.
