Piracy – the less insulting choice

I recently bought “season three”:http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?ie=UTF8&location=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.amazon.co.uk%2FBattlestar-Galactica-Edward-James-Olmos%2Fdp%2FB000OY8NCE%3Fie%3DUTF8%26s%3Ddvd%26qid%3D1190042555%26sr%3D8-1&tag=virtuelvis-20&linkCode=ur2&camp=1789&creative=9325 of “Battlestar Galactica”:http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ from “Amazon UK”:http://www.amazon.co.uk/
I enjoyed the show, but I did *NOT* enjoy the ending. Not as in the ending of the season, as I have a few episodes more to watch before I’m through. No, what I’m talking about is the ‘promotional’ anti-“piracy”-video that every disc ends with:

What the fuck is wrong with these people? First of all, I payed money for this DVD. Because I enjoy the show, and I can’t be bothered to download it. A pirate reselling the DVD would obviously remove this notice anyway, so the target group is definitely going to miss it. If the target is downloaders, they are going to miss the target group there as well, as any well-endowed BitTorrent site will carry the episodes separately anyway. Third: Show me the proof that piracy funds terrorism. And don’t equate ‘piracy’ to terrorism, if it’s online piracy. Fourth: *I bought the damn product, now stop insulting me with superflous warnings, and instead take a clue from the so-called “pirates”.*
Thank you, and tell me when I can start shopping again without being insulted by the media industry

  1. I think its worse when the DVD starts with crap like that and tries to stop you from skipping ahead.
Could be an idea for a site – listing DVDs with those kind of messages so people can stay away from buying them. That would make the movie companies think twice about pulling that kind of shit.

There are firmwares for (at least some) DVD players out there that will let you do whatever you want, whenever you want. They are slightly unsupported, though.
